Acclaimed author Laurie Halse Anderson will join us for a special book club event in honor of the release of Ashes, the eagerly anticipated final book of the Seeds of America trilogy (Chains, Forge) and our landmark exhibition The Battle of Brooklyn. At this event, families will participate in small-group discussions about the book followed by a presentation from the author and Q&A. Finally, families can get their books signed! Before or afterwards, families are encouraged to explore the Battle of Brooklyn exhibition with the aid of our Family Activity Guide bookletto immerse themselves in the setting for the beginning of this book series.

About Ashes by Laurie Halse Anderson

Two-time National Book Award Finalist Laurie Halse Anderson returns to tell the final chapter of Isabel and Curzon’s embattled search for Isabel’s enslaved little sister Ruth against the backdrop of the American Revolution.  This novel has already earned multiple starred reviews, with Kirkus calling it “A strong conclusion to a monumental tale…” and Booklist declaring “Yes, readers, it was worth the wait.” Follow Isabel and Curzon as the two escape Valley Forge only to face slave catchers and more obstacles after being reported as runaways. With this last book in her trilogy, Halse Anderson invites readers to fully explore the price and meaning of freedom in this revolutionary age.

About the Reading into History Family Book Club
Every month families read a historical fiction or nonfiction book together at home, and then attend a Book Wrap event, where they share reactions to the book, see cool Museum artifacts and documents related to the story, and meet other history detectives and special guests! Past special guests have included authors Walter Dean Myers, Avi and Rita Williams-Garcia, plus Museum curators, historians, and other experts.
